About This Pipe
Werner Mummert is lauded for his ingenuity and innovation in pipe making. His portfolio regularly reveals expressive designs unique to the German artisan, and his work delights with a modernist, avant-garde style that's unique within the genre. His Poker designs are a genre unto themselves — varying from those in his Deco finish to his remarkable Reverse Calabash renditions — and this paneled version is among his signatures. It maintains the Poker's sure-sitting disposition and characteristic separation between bowl and shank, only with squared-off edges instead of cylindrical shaping for a sharp and structured aesthetic. Most creative is Mummert's approach to the shank end which features an off-set, cubed motif that lends the illusion of part of the shank being rotated. It's a delightful, playful, and thoroughly Cubist interpretation of the classic Poker shape, and it's dressed in one of Mummert's renowned sandblasts to reveal stunning ring grain beneath a light, blonde finish.
