About This Pipe
Werner Mummert's Cavalier designs are always striking and unique, each one exhibiting the German artisan's penchant for playful shaping cues. Werner even merged the Cavalier design with his signature reverse Calabash Poker. This particular piece is an exceptionally compact take on the classic shape and is a fully functioning rendition, featuring a removable button at the shank extension that will drain any unwanted moisture that might develop. Just as impressive as the composition's craftsmanship is the sandblasted finish and the rich color palette on display. The sandblast is exceptionally rugged, resembling the craggy blasts associated with carvers like J.T. Cooke and Michael Parks. Waves of ring grain pulsate all around the stummel, seemingly radiating from out of the bowl's pointed heel spur with smooth briar tastefully employed at the rim, shank, and shank extension. The smooth areas are stained a rich ruby hue, complementing the swirling cumberland stem's color as well as the bubblegum pink tones of the removable button. It's a stunning piece that few pipe makers could pull off effectively with these kind of results, but then again Werner Mummert is unlike many other carvers.
