About This Pipe

Inspired by the seminal fantasy works of British author and pipe smoker J.R.R. Tolkien, Vauen's Auenland series presents a range of distinctive Churchwardens. The series fittingly translates to "Shire" in German — a reference to Tolkien's land of Middle Earth — and all Auenland pipes are distinguished by a long stem crafted from beechwood for a thoroughly rustic style. Lined with acrylic, though, and fitted with an acrylic bit, these stems offer modern smoking comfort and easy cleaning while maintaining a consistent all-wood aesthetic. This particular Almar shape is a fluid Cutty design, presented here in a smooth finish and drilled to accommodate a 9mm filter.

When you want to sit back and do nothing else other than enjoy a smooth, relaxing smoke, I highly recommend this Churchwarden style pipe. Low quality pipe that's massively overpriced

First, they stopped doing individual photos for $330 pipes. I can understand the cheap cobs, not this expensive of a pipe.

They publish a gorgeous pipe in the photo. You will NOT receive a pipe that looks a quarter as good as the photo.

Upon delivery, the pipes stem has a considerable bend to the side & the joint between stummel & stem is really sloppy & has a noticeable gap.

I like the aesthetic, the shape of the bowl & the wood cover acrylic stem. What I would like more is for the price to reflect on the quality or craftsmanship. This is a $180 pipe at absolute most. $330 for shoddy manufacturing is a joke....Read More

I must admit, I was almost dissuaded from purchasing this pipe due to the sole review posted here, prior to my own. Almost. I am glad that I trusted my gut and took the leap anyways. I had watched numerous YouTube reviews of these Auenland pipes, put forth by people that I have found to be honest and forthright. So, I anxiously awaited the day when Smoking Pipes would have these in stock again. When they did, I was ready to pounce…until I read Lee’s review. I do not discredit his review of the pipe he received. I do not know the condition of the pipe he received beyond what he described. However, my recent purchase was not at all like the pipe he described. Beyond the beauty of its aesthetic, which I found very much mirrored the images posted here on the website, I find the pipe to be very well constructed. In terms of its build quality, it is a premium, factory-made pipe that holds its own in the company of stalwarts like Peterson and Savinelli. In relation to the bowl, to the naked eye, I found the stem to be perfectly and properly aligned and it fits snuggly in the mortise of the shank, without the gap mentioned in the other review and without any wobble or looseness. Admittedly, for a non-artisanal pipe, it is a relatively expensive pipe (as everything nowadays seems to be), but I would wholeheartedly disagree with it being low quality or shoddy. I very much look forward to smoking this pipe and, assuming it functions as good as it looks, buying more Auenland pipes to add to my collection and rotation....Read More
