About This Pipe
Judging by the rounded nature of the rim, the strong, curved taper along the fore and aft, and the orientation of the transition slightly above the base, this Tonni Nielsen design reminds me more than a little of Sixten Ivarsson's own signature take on the Acorn shape: the Peewit. That being said, Tonni has, as he does with most classic designs, tweaked the proportions and lines just a touch, so as to create something distinctly his own. The transition itself, while similar, is positioned just a touch lower, and he's squared off the shank into crisp panels, accentuating the arcing curve flowing up to the stem base. Furthermore, the bowl itself has been lent an extra bit of visual weight, with thick chamber walls promising a subtle warmth in hand. As is the case with the rest of Tonni's composition, the grain orientation and stain choice is superb.
