About This Pipe
Hiroyuki Tokutomi really changes things up here, pairing this extra-broad, organic Tomato shape not to a piece of bamboo runner, to a section of the bamboo's stalk instead, braced between two pieces of mastodon ivory. Smooth, straight, duskier, and with much lower-profile knuckle, it does indeed succeed in really making this composition stand out, even when nestled amongst several other of Tokutomi's creations. Of course, the bowl is still the star of the show, and to this end it displays plenty of this artisan's signature "balanced asymmetry", in smoothly contoured form that palms just perfectly in hand.
