About This Pipe
The grandson of Anne Julie and a former mentee of Tom Eltang, Johannes Rasmussen is the skilled artisan behind Suhr pipes. He began pipe making at an early age, crafting his first pipe at just eight years old. Such an auspicious start helps explain Rasmussen's mastery of the craft and his ability to create intricate, distinctive designs that are uniquely his own — yet clearly shaped by the rich artisan legacy he was born into.
Balancing the minimalist, functionalist lines of Tom Eltang with the floral, sculptural influence of Anne Julie, this Blossom is Rasmussen's tribute to his roots. Equal parts bulbous and fluid, the composition carries a compelling visual tension and a near-neoclassical silhouette, with its dramatically full fore contrasted by its slender, curvaceous aft. The bowl at the fore is stout and intricately carved to echo the flower that lends the shape its name — its flared rim framed by crisp ridgelines that cascade down the bowl and define sculpted channels along fore and one flank. At the rear, an ovoid shank emerges from a softly cheeked transition, flicking upward before meeting a gently curved saddle stem accented with mammoth. The mammoth adds a subtle vibrancy to the otherwise restrained palette, dominated by an inky stain and a crisp sandblast.
