Sandblasted Lovat with Fordite Tobacco Pipe

Though well on the more understated end of Sabina Santos's shaping spectrum, this Lovat shape readily hints at the Portuguese carver's time spent in Denmark, with its gentle touch of forward cant and subtle lifting heel. Its sandblast is neat and understated, and it serves to coax a remarkably tight, stacked spread of ring-grain climbing up all flanks of the bowl without disrupting the shape's neat linework. Pairing the dark texture with a vibrant mauve saddle stem, the carver opted for an accent of multi-hued fordite to lend the composition a light bit of modern charm. A lovely piece.
