About This Pipe
Though we haven't seen many renditions of the classic form from Kent Rasmussen, it appears as though the Danish carver's Volcanoes have grown vastly more dynamic and fluid over time. From classical variations to the more unique, sculptural interpretations, it can surely be said that no two iterations are exactly alike. This one, to my eye, seems to be more acutely steeped in implied forward momentum than previous examples, sporting, as it does, a distinct forward sweep about the bowl, accentuated by a curved, lip-like rim that evokes the look of a water pitcher. It sits perfectly balanced on its curved base, showcasing lively licks of flame on both flanks, coupled with an underside's worth of striking birdseye.
