About This Pipe
Compact, sturdy, firm — those words are easy to use on say a short, large-bowled, thick-shanked straight Pot. In this case though Brad Pohlmann has me wanting to use them, then second guessing myself because this shape also plays so much to smooth Danish-influenced contours and lone, easy curves of line. The trick is, I think, that Brad made a very firm form using the sorts of line more easily applied to rendering a soft-looking design. The rounded-triangular cross-section of the shank and transition, for example, lends a hint of architectural style, while the bowl is made tauter in its curvaceousness by lifting and emphasizing the waistline.
