About This Pipe
After carving his first pipe from a pipe kit, Pete Prevost became fascinated with the craft and was afforded the opportunity to study under Jody Davis and Todd Johnson, two of North America's premier carvers. Prevost quickly honed his skills and eventually quit his career as a touring musician to focus on pipe making full-time. He now heads the BriarWorks workshop, but he manages to find time to produce shapes under his own name, like this sleek Liverpool.
Slender and quite compact, measuring less than five inches from bowl to bit, this Liverpool showcases Prevost's precise shaping and elegant line work. The pert, upright bowl possesses a gentle taper from its plump heel to its taut rim, reflecting a common shaping cue found in Danish pipe making. The bowl stands at the fore of an arrow-straight shank-and-stem arrangement that keeps the form lightweight and streamlined in profile. A crisp, ruby-hued sandblast dresses the stummel and highlights the briar's natural grain quite well, while a tapered stem of creamy Bakelite tops off the design and adds a touch of contrasting vibrancy to the overall form.
