About This Pipe
While Nanna Ivarsson's Acorn renditions commonly seem to evoke a sense of inflated geometry, the bowl looking as if it might float away from the transition, the Danish carver's Tomato renditions seem to keep to a more grounded, forward-implied approach. It's almost as if these compositions are showing the signs of bearing the overtly plump weight of the bowl at the end of its long and sprawling form, and thus must keep to a more low, squat means of locomotion. This is certainly not the case in practice, but the effect seems to work brilliantly either way, as Nanna has emphasized the form's drawn out shaping via a crisp teardrop line emanating from the shank's end, traveling all the way to meet the bowl's rim. Finished in a rich, warm sandblasted texture, loads of tight, lightly-coaxed ring grain surround bowl, further reinforcing the shape's inherently organic style. A gorgeous piece from a legend in the world of briar.
