About This Pipe
Danish artisan Mike Sebastian Bay began carving pipes quite by chance. While seeking someone to repair his father's old pipes, he encountered a certain Tom Eltang. The two quickly bonded, and Eltang became his mentor, guiding him through the process of making his own high-quality pipes. Now a highly respected artisan in his own right, Bay puts those early lessons to use, incorporating elements of Eltang's style into his own aesthetic.
This Lovat is a traditional interpretation of the classic shape, placing a pert, tapered bowl atop a plump heel at the fore of an elongated round shank. The silhouette is archetypal, elevated by Bay's refined details. Out back, a comfortable vulcanite saddle stem is accented with a slim band of brass at its junction to the shank, adding a genteel contrast to the composition, while the smooth rim displays fine grain that stands out amid the stummel's crisp black sandblast.
