About This Pipe
Brazilian carver Luis Lavos gained an appreciation for woodworking as a child in his grandfather's workshop. He grew up to study graphic arts, but his early appreciation for woodwork never left him, so it seemed only natural for him to take up pipe making. His incredible talent is showcased with this Dublin Sitter, which features a dynamic profile, one defined by a flared, Poker-like bowl posed at the fore of a trim shank and a gently bent stem. Two knuckles of bamboo extend the shank and add a touch of organic flair to the composition, offsetting the earthy sandblast that dresses the stummel. Said finish highlights gorgeous grain across the bowl's flanks, though the rim is smoothly polished and adds a touch of contrast to the overall form. A gorgeous design, this piece offers a wealth of engaging details, and it is sure to appeal to enthusiasts of naturalistic compositions.
