About This Pipe

This Shield showcases Ken Dederich's affinity for non-standard shapes and fine line work. As is traditional for the form, this piece boasts a stocky bowl with a rounded, bulging fore wall and a crisp ridgeline, which descends from the broad rim to the pointed, Acorn-like heel. Said bowl is positioned at the fore of an upturned shank and a steeply curved saddle stem, the latter of which promotes a comfortable smoking posture. Two knuckles of bamboo extend the shank and lend a touch of warm organicism to the composition. The bamboo's hues contrast the stummel's finish, which consists of a dark partial sandblast that highlights gorgeous growth rings across the the bowl's flanks, while the fore wall is finished smooth to showcase a veritable ocean of birdseye.
