About This Pipe
A low-slung, forward-rushing Mushroom design, this offering from Ken'ichiro Dederichs captures the Germany-based, Japanese carver's appreciation for Danish school and organic motifs. The overall form here is quite compact, practically a nosewarmer yet maintaining a hearty substance in hand — the bowl being particularly broad with a hearty firmness thanks to the Rhodesian-like ridgeline below the rim. A generous dose of natural plateau interrupts the implied line of the rim, elevating its organic style and accenting the profile with negative space that's echoed by the use of a saddle stem out back. Further complementing that organicism, it's dressed warm, earthy stain against a low-profile, Danish-style sandblast that maintains the underside's consistent arc from shank end to the fore of the bowl, the downward turn of the stem effortlessly counteracting the heel's upward turn. A beautiful, pocket-friendly briar from Ken.
