Smooth Natural Billiard with Mammoth Tobacco Pipe

Jason Mouton is an American artisan working out of Gueydan, Louisiana, where he crafts pipes with a distinctly American aesthetic, often reinterpreting classic shapes to emphasize plumpness at the fore. Though this Billiard displays that style well, its shaping immediately calls to mind the Danish school of design, complete with soft lines, supple curves, and an impressively light weight. Sleek and slender, the shank and stem reach out from a wide, cheeked transition, the shank itself possessed of an understated taper that's accelerated through the stem. Said stem is crafted from a sleek length of black vulcanite, and it's been accented at the base with a broad band of fossilized mammoth molar, the pale tones of the accent standing out readily against their more starkly-hued surroundings. The impressive slimness of the aft side combination shifts the visual weight toward the bowl, though there's a subdued sense of balance cultivated by the shank's subtly extended length. Up front, the bowl stands on a rounded heel and boasts rather thick walls that cant forward gently while rising to the rim with the supple taper iconic of Danish-style Billiards, the cheeked transition amplifying the plump roundness of the lower walls. Atop the bowl, the walls form an inflated rim whose presence is marked by a subtle ridgeline, further enhancing the bowl's curves. Light and handy, this pipe is dressed in a rich, light stain that unveils a lovely display of flame grain, especially around the bowl, with birdseye swirling around the underside and rim.
