About This Pipe

Peter Heding, a former molecular biologist, was introduced to his first piece of briar in 2003, describing it as "love at first sight." Since then, he has refined his craft under the guidance of renowned artisan Tom Eltang, developing a style deeply influenced by the Danish school of design. A beautiful example of his influence, this Acorn is a thoroughly Danish rendition, with a cheeked transition and soft curvature throughout. Up front features a modestly contoured bowl with a gently lifted heel and a rounded rim. The lifted heel starts this piece's dynamic posture, creating a soft undercurve that continues to the bit. The low-set shank accentuates the bowl's supple profile, meeting a vulcanite stem with a rounded base that matches the bowl's plumpness. The shank and stem are joined at a junction marked by a band of vibrant masur birch, the hardwood's warm complexion standing out starkly against the rest of the pipe's earthy complexion. The stummel is finished in a smooth auburn stain, which accentuates striking flame grain across the bowl.
