About This Pipe
With a shaping style steeped in the Danish artisan tradition, Peter Heding is among Denmark's premier artisan pipe makers. His résumé is elevated by tutelage from Tom Eltang, and Heding's quality craftsmanship is matched by his artistic eye, often drawing inspiration from masters before him combined with his own creative vision.
This Pot rendition honors the recognizable shaping style of veteran German artisan Cornelius Mänz, who is known for his chubby interpretations of classic shapes. Heding puts his own spin on that style here, rendering a Pot whose shank matches the bowl's robust muscularity. Indeed, the transition rises almost as high as the rim, while cheeking defines the bowl's broad walls. For contrast, though, Heding has elongated the shank: Such a cue adds a touch of sleekness to the otherwise stout design while still keeping the overall length in neat, compact dimensions. Covered in a dark rustication, the stummel is tastefully accented by a smooth-polished and ruby-tinged rim, as well as a handsome horn accent at the shank end.
