About This Pipe
Squat, broad, and thick-walled, this bent Dublin from Gabriele presents a hearty nature, but does so in a compact overall form and with no shortage of elegant curvature. It caters to Danish-style renditions of the shape, particularly in the shaping of the shank and stem base. Said shank features ridgelines along the flank for a touch of crisp line work against the gentle curves of the silhouette. Those curves, though, end at the heel instead of continuing up the bowl, maintaining a smooth, rounded feel in hand. Subtle asymmetry graces this piece, too, as the Italian artisan has slanted the shaping of the shank face — the right side coming close to the stem when viewed from the smoker's perspective. The stem is fashioned from cumberland and features a domed expansion disk at its past, calling to mind the style of stems seen on vintage Danish pipes. Dressed in a natural stain, the stummel displays a consistent array of flame grain, rising up into the wavy rim of natural plateau and beautifully complemented by the warm tones of the mouthpiece.
