A brilliant example of Gabriele dal Fiume's penchant for merging playful energy with muscular shaping, this bent Dublin shape presents a lively form, imbued with stout insulating walls. The broad, inflated rim seems a logical conclusion for the sweeping form as well, serving to emphasize the form's forward-ebbing sense of mass. It's remarkably natural in hand, offering a number of comforting accommodations for the fingers. This allows for better inspection of the rich, striking birdseye and flame, the likes of which Gabriele clearly followed to fashion this piece. Licks of windswept flame dance on the left and right flanks, and the natural presentation served to earn the piece the carver's venerated Nautilus stamp, Gabriele's highest designation. A phenomenal piece from the Italian carver.
