About This Pipe
Quite similar in style and proportion to other oval-shanked Billiards we've seen from Tom Eltang, this rendition exemplifies the Danish carver's penchant for a minimalist approach to classic Danish pipe design. Sleek and active, the oval shank and saddle stem urge the profile forward, balanced out by the bowl's slight forward cant. Said bowl displays the traditional Danish convention of tapering subtly toward the rim, separating it from Anglo-French renditions which would be more straight and less plump about the lower half. This muscularity around the base makes the transition more defined and ensures a comfortably substantial feel in hand. The whole piece remains conveniently compact — offering a decently sized chamber yet easily fitting into a pocket for a size that's alluringly versatile. Dressed in one of Tom's signature contrast stains, it displays a cross-cut grain pattern, the smoky hues of the finish drawing focus to the mammoth accent along the stem base.
