Sandblasted Tokutomi Volcano (7223) Tobacco Pipe

David Huber is an American carver that takes inspiration from the Danish and Japanese pipe-making tradition, and as such, his work tends be quite organic, prioritizing sculpted lines and precise shaping. Huber began making pipes full-time in 2014 and received guidance in his early days from carvers like Jeff Gracik, Nanna Ivarsson, and Alex Florov.

Named in honor of Hiroyuki Tokutomi, one of Japan's master carvers, this Volcano boasts a rotund, full-bodied bowl that's positioned at the fore of a geometric shank and a demurely curved mouthpiece. The shank curls to one side of the composition and imbues the shape with an active appearance in profile. Furthermore, the shank's firm, structural ridgelines offset the bowl's rounded contours and add a touch of angularity to the composition. A dark sandblast dresses the stummel and draws out radiating growth rings across the briar's surface.
