About This Pipe
If I had not already known, it may have taken a second upon seeing this briar to readily identify it the work of Benni Jorgensen. It's a bit understated relative to the carver's work at large, foregoing most of the characteristic touches of dynamism commonly seen amongst his pieces, such as flaring at the shank end or crisp ridges to the left and right of the shank. That sweeping gesture is quite pronounced though, as is the playful undulation at the rim, the likes of which make for a lively canvas for showcasing some vivid whorls of birdseye, accentuated by a warm blonde contrast. Adorned with one of the carver's stepped saddle stems, it's certain to make for a fine addition to your collection.
