Sleek and compact, this charming Acorn from Federico Becker presents a bowl that's more squat and rounded than in his taller versions. Classically inclined, with its high-set, inflated waistline at the rim and subtle taper downward, the heel is marked by a jutting, pointed spur beneath the fore, a signature shaping cue favored by the Italian artisan. The lithe shank and stem are streamlined and taper gradually and elegantly toward the bit, a design cue often seen in Italian pipes. The stummel is dressed in a dark sandblast that highlights handsome growth rings, especially along the left flank, with the inner rim and trim ring of briar at the shank end smoothly polished for contrast.
