About This Pipe

In profile, this bent Dublin from Chris Askwith displays a quick, dynamic style, flowing consistently through the stem and shank before flaring dramatically toward the rim, the aft side of the bowl flicking outward. Such shaping draws focus to the negative space above the transition, marked by a smooth, alluring curve. When viewed from above, though, this piece takes on a completely different personality — the lenticular shaping of the bowl coming to crisp points fore and aft, with a soft ridgeline running down through the heel and bottom of the shank. Drastically different depending on the angle observed, this piece employs a wide variety of shaping cues, an aspect that's echoed by the dual finish: Though the natural color palette remains constant, the flanks differ in texture. The left side boasts a craggy rustication while the right is a more light-depth sandblast displaying dimples of birdseye. All paired to one of Chris's signature polyester stems, it offers a colorful aesthetic that's typical of the artisan's extroverted style.
