Ikebana translates to "living flowers," and is a reference to the highest form of the Japanese art of flower arrangement. The prestigiously named Tsuge Ikebana is Tsuge's premier workshop, and three artisans work there: Asami Kikuchi, Yoshirou Ohi, and Kazuhiro Fukuda. They make every pipe by hand, showcasing distinctively Japanese interpretations of Danish shapes, and each maker possesses their own unique style.

This Freehand by Kazuhiro Fukuda of Tsuge Ikebana proudly showcases Danish influence, which is most pronounced in profile. The gestural composition sweeps from the shank face to the fore in an unbroken curve, which is further defined by a crisp ridgeline that wraps around the stummel, imbuing this piece with a palpable momentum. Furthermore, the shape presents a muscular balance, as the width of the stummel stays consistent, save for a slight taper at the pronounced fore. Additionally, the organic curvature of the supple walls and broad underside makes this piece exceptionally ergonomic, making it a joy to clutch in hand. Also, the well-bent vulcanite saddle stem provides a comfortable clench to match, while its compact form keeps one's focus centered on the stummel. Moreover, the briar is dressed in a chestnut smooth finish, highlighting stunning straight grain on both flanks and mesmerizing whorls of birdseye on the underside.
