Partially Sandblasted Bent Apple (FH) (586) Tobacco Pipe

An accomplished musician and a self-taught pipe maker, Scott Thile always impresses with his sleek, muscular designs. Thile says his approach to pipe making is inspired by the "The Danish neoclassics as interpreted by the North American greats," which makes sense when considering this bent Apple design. Though rather compact, this piece boasts a muscular build, with a substantive girth evident across the bowl and shank alike. Said bowl stands atop a round heel and grows trim walls that take on an arcing taper to a flat rim, its entire frame possessed of a supple curvature that conforms naturally to the hand. A gently angled transition follows the bowl and marks the start of an upturned shank that subtly tapers into a demurely curved mouthpiece. The shank is softly paneled and introduces a touch of geometric angularity to the pipe's otherwise fluid form, the outcropping's faceted frame bookended by the round bowl and the circular embellishment at the stem's base. Dressed in a dual finish, the stummel sees a dark sandblast juxtaposed against a warm, glossy smooth finish, the contrasting textures offering a wealth of tactile appeal.
