About This Pipe
With over a decade of pipe-making experience to his name, Lv Zelong honed his craft under the guidance of respected artisans Ping Zhan and Lan Zhenjun, and today his work is well regarded for its artful shaping, tasteful accent work, and reliable engineering. Much of Zelong's portfolio draws inspiration from iconic Danish artisans merged with the Chinese carver's own creativity and aesthetic vision — all supported by his sterling craftsmanship and remarkable finishes.
A long-shanked Acorn design, this piece honors the late Lars Ivarsson and his recognizable shaping style. Ivarsson was known for his organic shaping and often produced Acorn designs elongated by stretched, flaring shanks. Zelong pays homage to that tradition and design here: The bowl flares upward into a rounded rim, as if growing from the transition, and the shank extends with a gradual flare and slight upward curl in a gently recurved, hand-cut saddle stem. A wedding-band accent of boxwood wraps the shank end for a touch of contrast against the stummel's dark stain, while the sandblasted finish highlights wavy growth rings around the bowl.
