Smooth Dublin Tobacco Pipe

A compact, Danish-inclined straight Dublin, this affable number fits in well to Davide Iafisco's aesthetic. An Italian carver with a penchant for the Danish tradition, Iafisco is known for a more compact shaping style and artisan renditions of classic Danish shapes. In this offering, Davide has paired a fairly standard Danish Dublin bowl, topped with natural plateau on the end of a pinched shank. It's at this shank that Iafisco lets his creativity shine.

The shank's lenticular cross section forms crisp ridgelines along the flanks traveling from the button all the way through the shank. While this isn't an uncommon feature, most carvers would terminate the ridgelines at the transition or gradually allow them to dissipate while traveling up the bowl. Not so with Iafisco. Instead, the Italian carver shows no hesitation in allowing the shank's hard lines to run directly through the lower bowl, wrapping the base in a sharp, jutting fashion. The resulting aesthetic hints at the Volcano in how the bowl and heel are separated, which also allows for a stunning array of grain — tongues of flame wrap the bowl while birdseye covers the entire underside.
