About This Pipe
Originally from Dublin, Irish artisan Austin Quinlan got his start in restoring old pipes before eventually venturing into crafting his own pieces. Today, he's known for producing pipes that mostly fall within the Anglo-French shape-chart, though he does occasionally lean into Danish or Japanese shaping cues. This Billiard from Austin Quinlan is a more traditional rendition of the shape, and one that maintains a compact profile, the entire pipe measuring less than five inches in length. Up front, the walls of the cylindrical bowl rise with a slight taper from firm heel to rim. Despite its condensed build, this pipe still houses a respectable tobacco chamber, offering ample space for a favored blend. A broad transition gives way to a gradually tapering shank and stem out back, the latter adorned with stabilized bamboo fibers at its base. The inky vulcanite mouthpiece pairs well with the sandblasted stummel, which offers a wealth of crisp texture underneath a shadowy stain.
