About This Pipe Tobacco

Midnight Orchard is the first Small Batch aromatic, proving an aromatic can be every bit as nuanced and rewarding as any premium blend. Featuring Blackened Bright Virginias from 2023, vibrant Lemon Bright Virginias from 2019 and 2023, heirloom Old Belt Red Virginias from 2019 and 2022, and genuine St. James Perique sourced from 31 Farms, Midnight Orchard delivers a richly layered smoking experience. The flavor profile features notes of dark fruit and citrus mingled with loamy earth and warming spice. Fragrant and contemplative, it evokes the atmosphere of an ancient orchard suspended in twilight, where every bowl reveals new dimensions of alluring aromatics.

I can't believe I was able to buy 52 tins!

Just kidding. Stop review bombing stuff. It's absurd you can even review something when you haven't purchased it. Cry in emails to Smoking Pipes about not being fast enough to get the limited release. Leave the reviews for actual reviews.

Just lit up my first bowl after letting it chill in the opened tin for a day. I was initially a little apprehensive at first puff, the flavor and strength seemed a bit heavier than I would have expected. I cube cut it and smoked it in a cob, I left it out for ten minutes to dry a smidge. By mid bowl I am thoroughly impressed, super well-balanced and the flavors really come together nicely. There is a great balance between sweet, spicy, and tangy. Flavor notes I picked up are (in no particular order)-citrus, pepper, raspberry, cinnamon, molasses. Towards the bottom of the bowl the flavors have intensified. I think this will age very well and I am excited to compare my review over the years. When 6 o’clock rolled around I ordered my tins. I even waited in the queue, but it WAS available. Check your local B&M if you missed out💨...Read More

[Reading the product description]

First Small Batch aromatic? Cool. Types of leaves? Awesome. Richly layered smoking experience? Okay, that’s a little tootin’ hornsy, but it wins me back with dark fruit and citrus. But then…

What the hell is “loamy earth” supposed to mean? And is that
supposed to sound appetizing? Because the word loamy at first glance sounds gross. So I looked up loamy and google says it’s “a crumbly, nutrient-rich soil made of a balanced mixture of sand, silt, clay, and decaying organic matter.”

I guess what I’m getting at is… thankfully for all parties involved, this tobacco is NOT loamy. You’re not going to detects hints of silt and decaying organic matter. No sand, either. Wouldn’t that be unpleasant?

Orange marmalade and dark toast

This is basically a Virginia blend with some secret sauce. Definitely tobacco forward and not all aromatic smokers are going to like it. But I do think most of Virginia lovers absolutely will. It starts with a wonderful spiced orange and floral note and deepens throughout the smoke into some nice stewed fruit. This would be great for seasonal change up from Orlik Golden Sliced as it is just as floral, but has some deeper richness. Definitely more complex than your typical VaPer. The orange stays throughout in the retrohale and if smoked slowly. I typically switch between VaPers (PS and De Luxe Navy Rolls) and English blends (Pirate Kake and Nightcap), but got my start with aromatics and cigarettes. I've been looking for more crossovers to better please the family. I don't think this one will please the family, but aromatic smokers looking to get into more tobacco forward blends would really enjoy this. In fact I don't know many people who wouldn't enjoy this though it may not be in everyone's rotation. It's very well crafted and I love the layers. Reeves accomplished the task of casing in such a way that it plays well with the underlying leaf. As a coffee roaster a new trend is to ferment coffee with fruits and other things, which often leads to a very pungent and unbalanced coffee, but there are a few people out there who are doing it subtly enough and with enough polish that it tastes really good. That's what this reminds me of. Most people are going to go back to something more traditional, but every once in awhile it's nice to have something truly special. As far as sessionability, I would give it a four out of five. It could be an all day smoke but tomorrow you're going to want to pick something else up and then return to it a day or two later. I can see this aging really well. I think it's an excellent blend, but definitely belongs in the small batch category. It could grab a cult following, but I would prefer C&D to focus on other small batch releases than to revisit this one, not because it isn't good, but because I want to see what they do next. The proof of concept in adding aromatics to tobacco forward small batch blends definitely exists in this blend. Keep doing it. This is amazing....Read More

Literally hot air. No taste at all. Regret buying 8 tins. A pall mall has more flavor than this.
