About This Cigar

The Liga Privada No.9 has its origins, circa 2005, in a project by Steve Saka to come up with a cigar that would both suit him as a personal, daily smoke, and that would have a wide enough appeal so that he could also feel confident handing samples out to his peers in the industry. After a great deal of blending and testing, they settled on one of the umpteenth sub-variations of base blend variation number 9 — abbreviated for the sake of simplicity to "No.9".

The only problem was that while Drew Estate could simplify the name, they couldn't simplify the blend without losing its magic, and the No.9 called for a combination very specific ingredients from seven different farms. So specific were the ingredients that their availability meant this blend would only see release as an on-again, off-again, and always limited offering.

Strong, without pushing into overpowering, rich and complex, this blend met its original goal of earning a wide appeal. even if regular availability has never been in the cards.

One fine cigar! Great construction, flavor builds as you go down to the end. It is the top of my budget, but it’s a fine cigar. I’ve had trouble with other brands of construction and draw. Drew states is done really well.
Not up to the hype

Maybe because I expected a lot, I wasn't thrilled. It's somewhat harsh smoke, more to the peppery side. Couldn't taste a lot of nuance because of abundance of pepper. And something was definitely missing. A balance? Sweetness? Aroma? Can't say it was totally bad smoke, but for the price - there are better cigars. A lot of nicotine in there, too. Couldn't finish it in one shot....Read More

I got into cigars and smoked a toro for the first time, but got punched for the first time. Powerful. There was a smell of smoke from the fire in the room where they escaped. There was a refreshing scent at the end of the taste.
My absolute fav!

The Ligament Privada is very beautiful and the wrapping is flawless. I especially like the band, which is nothing flashy yet very elegant. The one I smoked burns, surprisingly, uneven. I guess this might be one single case and I will try another one to test again. The flavor is full of woody and earthy tones, and I can also pick up toasted nuts and espresso. Probably because the one I had burns uneven, the flavor is not quite smooth - it sometimes gets strong and sometimes it becomes mild. Overall, it is a very good one with a pleasant flavor profile. I hope the second one I take will correct the uneven burn....Read More
