About This Cigar

With vitolas all named for embassy positions, Joya de Nicaragua's Número Uno cigar began as a special blend gifted to world dignitaries and heads of state by Nicaraguan ambassadors. In 2019, Joya de Nicaragua revitalized the series and now offers it as part of their regular-production lineup. The Número Uno is among the brand's most premium cigars — fit for any leader — and it comprises Nicaragua fillers and binder within an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper for a luxurious smoking experience marked by delicious creaminess and subtle, complementary spice.

Excellent wrapper and construction. Perfect draw before lighting. Beginning with sweet, light cocoa nuttiness. Perfect self-draw after lighting! Amaretto after the first quarter when sipped with bourbon. Excellent flavor concentration after 1st third. Excellent sweet but strong flavors at half way. Well fermented leaf. No cedar. No warm licorice, barnyard undertones like Paragas or CAO. No vegetal or fungal tones like Avo or some Davidoff blends often have. Quite different from other JDN blends. Toward the end it is excellently subtle with lots going on. Nutty but bright with minor flavors of sweet spice and possibly some pleasant cedar. I’m reminded of a Cuban Montecristo I had in Germany years ago. This blend would be very good in a cuban corona or corona size given its fast flavor concentration. Medium full strength.
