About This Cigar

Foundation's founder and master blender Nicholas Melillo wanted to offer "an economy-minded, everyday smoke for connoisseurs — something tasty and delicious but didn't break the bank." Enter the Charter Oak line. Featuring Cuban-seed fillers from Estelí and Jalapa, Nicaragua, Charter Oak Habano cigars are then covered in a Nicaraguan binder and an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper.

As for the name and oak tree graphic on the band, Charter Oak pays homage to a specific white oak tree in Hartford, CT. The tree dated back to the 12th or 13th century before succumbing to a storm in 1856 and held a significant place in local history, having been sacred to the Native Americans and shared with early settlers. In 1686, when the English Crown sought to confiscate Connecticut's Royal Charter, the townsfolk hid the document in this special tree: Charter Oak.

This cigar has been cured for seven months. For me, the overall concentration is low to medium, and the smoke is no pressure through the nose. My sense of taste and smell is not so sensitive, and it is difficult to distinguish between different tastes. During the smoking process, the smoke feels smooth, with a hint of herbal taste, and there is no discomfort throughout the process. Had one today for the first time. Loved the Connecticut shade version and wanted to try this since I like habanos too. It didn't disappoint. Baking spices, creaminess, and slight sweetness. A touch of herbal tone on the back end, but not much. Strong, constant flavors, which is appreciated and well-noted for this wrapper type as I find habanos can be a more subtle flavor profile. Smokes easy, burned without touchups. Just light and enjoy. Charter oak is my new favorite brand in all three wrappers.
