About This Cigar
Named for founder Cano Aret Ozgener's initials, CAO originally focused on quality meerschaum pipes, fulfilling a passion Ozgener had formed early in life while growing up in Turkey. Eventually his love for pipes and pipe tobacco expanded to cigars, and in the 1990s, CAO launched their first cigar line. Since then, they've become a household name in humidors worldwide, with a diverse portfolio catering to an array of flavor preferences.
The Mortal Coil belongs to CAO's Arcana series and was the first release in the line, one which comprises cigars that showcase rare and unique tobaccos and tobacco processing techniques. The Mortal Coil was originally released in 2021 as a limited edition of 10,000 cigars, the blend highlighting Dominican Andullo tobacco: a process of aging leaves which sees them wrapped in large pods called Yaguas that compress the tobacco before the pods themselves are wrapped in rope to add further compression while they cure. The blend returned as an annual limited edition in 2023, and its fillers feature the aforementioned Dominican Andullo tobacco alongside Dominican Piloto Cubano, Nicaraguan Estelí tobacco, and Honduran leaf from the Jamastran Valley. A Connecticut Shade Grown binder and Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper complete the blend, resulting in a richly complex flavor profile that's sure to please even seasoned aficionados.
