About This Pipe Tobacco

Mac Baren's Modern Virginia Loose Cut consists of bright and darker Virginias from two continents, combined with Virginia-based Cavendish and a touch of Burley for a soft, smooth smoke. The result is a natural, sweet tasting, loose cut tobacco with a topping of ripe fruit (noticeably richer and more present here compared to the flake version) to captivate the modern pipe smoker.

...but, damn, it can bite! Take it slowly and you'll get a perfectly pleasant virginia flavour, though nothing complex or special. A notable casing can be tasted, but it doesn't get in the way. Really though, this blend can bite like heck if you don't watch it closely, and that takes away the experience of a contemplative, natural, smoking time....Read More

Nice smoke. Very natural virginia with a defined medium strength and very subtle notes of fruit that varies between pineapple and honey in the backstage.
Very fragrant in the tin, sweet virginia with a tangy scent of fruit that may be referencing summer.
I would say virginias dominate most of the time with only short apparitions from the burley, grassy notes here and there but not as robust as to define the smoke, probably because of the cavendish which must tranquilize the whole plot. As mentioned before there is also a natural "aromatic" like quality in taste while the room notes prevails with natural and sweet tobacco.

I received this as a free sample. The first time I smoked it I thought “Well it is not bad but I am not sure I would actually buy it”. I put it in my humidor and decided to come back to it later. Needing to take a break from the Latakia blends and heavy aromatics I normally smoke, I've starting smoking it again. I found it a nice smooth smoke although I do not smoke Virginias much. The Virginia dominates the taste and is only slightly offset by the Burly and Cavendish. Overall, it is not bad and I may wind up getting some for times when I want a change in taste....Read More

Taste buds vary, I guess. The initial scent upon opening is a pleasant apricot. Apparently, I'm not a fan of Virginias, as the taste was on the acrid hammer side, and its propensities for bite were quickly apparent. Over time, I got more used to the taste but simply didn't care for it at all.
