Seattle Pipe Club - Mississippi River Rum Barrel Aged 2oz
Delicious, sweetish, and repeatable
Thus review is actually for SPC version I bought in 2020 and cellared. At some point in the last year the seal failed so this is pretty dry. CD tins tend to hold up a bit better over time, so this might actually be better with CD! Even super dry, this blend is amazing. Notes went back and forth between bbq, vinegar, and ketchup. Sweet leathery taste from the Latakia did not over power, and I smoked back to bowls in Rossi 8315 with no hint of nicotine hit (to which I'm sensitive). There were hints of rum in the tin note, but I wonder if it has mostly evaporated. I need to buy more when it's in stock again. So good.

Mellow Fellow, Faint Vanilla
Easy to smoke, not goopy for me. Very faint vanilla notes, but not enough to keep me interested in this by itself. I added a pinch to Inns of Court and it toned down the perique flavor quite nicely. As a mixer, adds subtle sweetness to dry Englishes.

Dry English Like Champagne
Up to this point in my pipe smoking journey, I've come across 2 basic types of perique notes: raisins/stewed fruits and blue cheese. This blend employs the latter . The tin note is pungent. The flavor is complex and decent. I was expecting the black Cavendish to sweeten up the smoke, but it does not. The flavor is dry like champagne or wine. I don't enjoy the perique note in this one. It isn't bad... I just don't prefer it. I added just a bit of sweet black Cavendish and it seems to have toned down the perique flavor and strength. I'm glad to have tried it. To me this tastes like three friars with Latakia.

Has to be dried out
This cannot be smoked fresh out of the tin. It's so wet that trying to light it leads to instant bite. I jar this for 6 months, then let it dry before packing. Tin note smells like tea. Best when sipped. Ribbons are very long so some may want to chop them up. Flavor is kind of like lemon grass.

Easy, sweet, friendly
This is an easy smoke. Tastes like banana Runts to me. Very welcoming to others when smoked in public. It does leave a goopy mess in the bottom of the bowl. No tongue bite. Great tobacco for people new to pipe smoking.

This is so good. Easy to pack and light. Latakia is tasty without over powering. Easily one of my favorite English mixtures.

Nothing great
I purchased this after watching the mystery tobacco review. The vanilla flavor is really subtle, so much so that it didn't really show up after the first quarter of the bowl. Not offensive, just bland.
Amphora - Original Blend 1.75oz
Not enjoyable
The description suggests the topping highlights the sweetness of the burly. I don't taste much cocoa or sweet burly. Simply put, this was not an enjoyable smoke. I tried to dry it out, light pack, heavier pack, narrow bowl, wide bowl, filter and no filter. Tin note is great, but smoking flavor is skunky. Hard to keep lit. Just not worth the effort.
