Cornell & Diehl - Exclusive 2oz
Year Round Perique Fix
My tin was two years old btw, so keep that in mind. Let me be very clear: I utterly love Perique. Now The Beast, at least for me, stands out as the reigning champ of perquie blends, but, as we all know, it ain't sitting around for me to buy at my leisure. So I asked the SP crew what could hope to compare. I was led to this. Now this blend packs well in my Sean Reum Lumberman, a nice wide and deep piece of briar. This smokes with the intensity of a crashing wave, and in a similar vein, packs a punch and flavor that's very, obviously, powerful, since it's 50% perquie. The spice forward and it drop kicks you, especially in the middle of the bowl. It burns fast, similar to haunted bookshop, but I find this is more complex. This one is perfect to chase a huge steak down the gut, a morning kick in the nethers, or, for my original desires, a blend that can handle outside smoking with no issues and play the role of The Creature while the The Beast slumbers. Just don't push it too hard, as it will deliver vitamin N without restraint. A++ for me and it is in my regular rotation.

Cornell & Diehl - Bayou Morning Flake 2oz
She never fails me.
This is a long time in the works, mainly since I tend to be lazy on the review front, but the time has come: Bayou morning flake needs it's due. This blend is tenacious and beautiful, and as the title suggests, she never fails me. In the hot Southern Louisiana humidity where getting the mail can lead to heat stroke, you need a blend that doesn't care if your rocking a bit of a swamp ass. It's perquie forward, nice body in the smoke itself. I get notes of hay, sweet figs, spice, and for whatever reasons this blend reminds of cutting grass at my mom's when I was 12 when the world wasn't as loud and expensive. From devils butthole heat of July and August, to the high humidity coldness that seeps into your spleen and thickens the blood in January, this blend won't fail you if you pack it right and take it slow. Towards the end of the bowl, I get more perquie flavor, as the spice and musty fermented tang comes through for the final kiss goodbye. Buy one tin. Leave the other 10 for me.
