Cornell & Diehl - Black Gold Maple
Very good
Everyone’s preference is different, but I personally love this blend. It is smooth, tastes like it smells which is rich buttery maple, and the family loves the room note. It is the only blend I smoke they all compliment vs complain about. It burns well. Tastes excellent from start to finish. It stands out among the aromatics I’ve experienced. Definitely one I’ll be keeping stocked.

Cornell & Diehl - Nutty Irishman 2oz
Excellent
I’ve been smoking english and burley blends for a while now and have just recently moved to aromatics (never thought it would happen but here I am). Really like Nutty Irishman. It had a wonderful hazelnut and Irish crème flavor but still a good burley flavor along with it. Very good blend.

Cornell & Diehl - Burley Flake #2 2oz
Great series (so far)
I’ve been really enjoying #1 and #2 in the burley flake series. Enough so that I’m now placing an order for 3, 4, and 5. I like #2 better so far. But it is tough to say if that will hold true indefinitely. I’ve not had any issues with the strength of either but my nicotine tolerance is pretty high. 2 is a little sweeter. Neither have any bite. To me they are the ideal burley blends that I find myself reaching for most often now that I’ve discovered them. My Peterson 264 seems to bring out the flavor best. C&D has proven to be one of my favorite blenders. Thank you for this series.

Enjoyable

Cornell & Diehl - Old Joe Krantz Blue Label
Burley goodness
Love this for a simple, no fuss burley blend. Similar to Pegasus, a little less sweet. Just good and simple and straightforward. One I will stock and reach for often.

Cornell & Diehl - Big 'n' Burley 2oz
Nope
I like C&D burley blends like Billy Budd and Pegasus, but the only word that kept coming to mind as I smoked this one is “nasty”. Not for me.

Peterson - Irish Flake 50g
Disappointed
It comes very moist. Had to dry it for a good bit while and it still leaves a ton of moisture in the bowl. Smells and tastes like it has some kind of topping or casing and I’m not at all fond of it.

Cornell & Diehl - Billy Budd Blonde 2oz
Good blend
I love the original Billy Budd so I had to try this. I’m glad I did. I think C&D accomplished what they sought out to do with this blend. It is a Virginia / burley / cigar blend strong in flavor, no Latakia, that has hints of the original Billy Budd. Can’t think of a better name to give it than Billy Budd Blonde. Good quality blend.

Cornell & Diehl - Pegasus 2oz
Very good
Pegasus is a very good burley blend. If blends like Haunted Bookshop and Old Joe Krantz are too strong and pungent for you, Pegasus is a great way to get what is appealing about burley without the downsides of the aforementioned blends. Very pleasant blend that scratches the burley itch perfectly!

Cornell & Diehl - Billy Budd 2oz
A new favorite
I initially did not care for BB. It is stout. I’ve since learned how to smoke it and appreciate it and it has become a new favorite. When I sit down for a pipe I can’t think about other blends. I am drawn back again and again to this blend. I think it is the absence of orientals and the interplay between the latakia and cigar leaf that makes it so different and enjoyable. And it is strong! Just a very satisfying blend every time. It does well in every pipe I have. No bite. Burns well. But it will not win you friends with the room note and aftertaste! It’s a manly blend that I intend to stock up on! Plus, I love the fact that the name of the blend comes from a lesser known work by the great American author of Moby Dick, Herman Melville. This rugged blend fits perfectly with the theme of the story, which is about a great mutiny in the British navy in the late 1700’s. The opening line of Bill Budd: “In the time before steamships, or then more frequently than now, a stroller along the docks of any considerable sea-port would occasionally have his attention arrested by a group of bronzed mariners, man-of-war’s men or merchant sailors in holiday attire ashore on liberty.” And I certainly imagine their pipes being loaded with something like this wonderful sailor’s blend we have here!

Drucquer & Sons - Trafalgar 100g
Excellent English
A very well balanced classic English. If you favor English blends it is definitely worth a try. I will definitely be trying the other Drucquer & Sons blends.

Robert Lewis - Tree Mixture 50g
English
Tastes like what an English blend should taste like. Very good. I’ll be ordering more for sure.

Hearth & Home - WhiteKnight 1.75oz
Very nice
I’ve been a pipe smoker for a year now. This is the first Balkan style blend I’ve had since my palette has started to develop. I had Blackhouse early on and did not like it. However, I’m really enjoying White Knight, so much so, that I’m going to try Blackhouse again and Balkan Saseini (and Sobranie if I can ever find it). WK has really given me a liking for balkans. Unless I find something that blows it away, I think it will have a solid place in my rotation. Very good.

G. L. Pease - Haddo's Delight 2oz
Not for me
I’ve learned anything in the aromatic direction isn’t for me.

Solani - Aged Burley Flake - 656 50g
Great burley
I initially didn’t care for it, but it has quickly grown on me. I like it better than HH Burley Flake now, which was my previous favorite burley. It has a bitter chocolate note that is very enjoyable. Too bad it is hard to get!

G. L. Pease - Fillmore 2oz
Pretty good
Fillmore has a unique something I can’t put my finger on. Vinegar isn’t the right word, because it sounds terrible, but there is a note of something like that that sets it apart and makes it very enjoyable. I think it’s just the character of the reds. May have a spot in my rotation.

Peterson - Standard Mixture 50g
The Best
After smoking a tin of this, SM has become my go to blend. There are other blends I really like but wouldn’t want all the time. SM is the one I can return to and always know it will be a good enjoyable smoke. This is home base for me. So glad I finally tried it.
