Cornell & Diehl - Sun Bear Bourbon Cask 2oz
Definitely a gem for an experienced smoker.
This a great well balanced and blended tobacco. The tin note is enticing with honey and bourbon. The moisture is a bit more than what I like, but nothing 5 min of drying can't fix. The flavors are very subtle but rich. I get honey, pollen, bourbon, slight slight vanilla carmel from the bourbon, butter on non sweetened pancakes, and the slightest of tequila. Can't believe how many so called adults are rating a blend that they didn't get to try because of a platform that has nothing to do with the blend itself. There was other sellers that had it in stock you choose to stay here. Time to grow up or at least get some common sense and message customer service of the site instead of low balling a blend because your feelings got hurt. Me personally I haven't been able to get a single C&D blend that is small batch for the 5 years I've been a pipe smoker, but you won't see me writing a review tarnishing any of them because of it.
Cornell & Diehl - King Cake 2oz
Night out experience in bowl!!!
This is a great blend. Jeremy Reeves did a outstanding job!!! The tin note was mind blowing, strong, alcoholy, night on the town experience with some sweetness. First light i wasn't impressed...... until I got it going and then bam burst of flavors and none outshined the others. It has a great balance of tobacco flavors from the Virginia's, oriental's, and perique. Just when you think you have it figured out more notes come through with no tongue bite no bitterness no ashiness all around to me a perfectly blended experience. Now for the bad, Its so good that I don't think I can cellar this blend for 10 years without smoking it. Definitely gonna be a challenge but I'm hopeful. I will definitely be doing a full review on YouTube.
Cornell & Diehl - Exhausted Rooster 2oz
Great tobacco all around
Seen a fella on YouTube I subscribe to smoke this and he really enjoyed it so I decided I’d give it a try and I’m glad I did. It’s not knock your socks off but it’s definitely a treat. I popped open the tin and took a big inhale and and about threw up it had this awful smell that reminded me of a night out drink heavy( you guys know what I’m talking about with that smell ) I though maybe it went took a few more sniffs and that late night drunk smell disappeared and could smell a very nice Brady-ish smell and was great. I packed a bowl and was praying i wouldn’t have the same first reaction like I did when I smelled it and behold it was a great flavor with a bbqish brandy sweet nutty goodness. Had a few bowls to make sure it wasn’t a fluke and every time I puffed I got different notes. About the 3rd day it got to be boring no flavor just smoke even the tin note added ( this is just how my tastebuds work if I smoke the same thing over and over my senses go bland same when i eat ) but started to get scared I didn’t like it anymore took few days off tried it again and that lovely flavor was back so I decided to order more. I don’t think I’d recommend this to a beginner just for the fact the brandy can be hidden very easily like most c&d notes, if smoke to hot or not hot enough. But overall great blend. The 2 extra tins I bough I’m gonna age one to 2 yrs and one to 5 years see if they get better I’m hoping so because it’s already good but I’d love to see it be great!!!
Low Country - Santee 2oz
Definitely a let down
I’m primarily a virgins/aromatic smoker have been smoking for about 3 years straight 5 years altogether so when I seen apples I had to try it and it was less than ok I had a couple bowls in 2 different pipes and got the same result just a dry dottle bitter earth taste. I understand it’s low country and it’s a cheaper economical smoke but Cornell and Diehl’s name is still attached and blend it so i figured it would be good like most, but wow I was wrong, I taste absolutely no apple no sweetness really nothing just smoke and earth. I had sillems either red or blue I can’t remember (I have both) and it has apple and is very noticeable and sweet so maybe that’s why it’s such a big let down but I will revisit it after about a year to see if things have changed iv noticed for me at least anything Cornell & Diehl age improves all their blends but as of right now this one is bad.
Cornell & Diehl - Berry Good 2oz
Flavor matches the tin art just bland
Not all blends are gonna be winners and for me this one of them. This is classified as an aromatic but I would put it as a burly. I think what happened for me is iv smoke blends like sutlif raspberry cobbler that are heavy raspberry and you can really taste it, with this blend it has no real flavor other than burly, at first light I tasted a familiar sensation of green River vanilla (which I love) then read the tin and sure enough it has it (which I’m glad my taste buds are working correctly ha) as I went through the bowl I got random little slight burst of raspberry not very often though. It was a let down for me I like a lot of C&D big fan of Jeremy Reeves but this isn’t one of them. But I will try it again in 6 months see if it changes.
Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Bob's Chocolate Flake 50g
Not as the name implies
I’d like to start by saying this isn’t a bad blend at all and I will buy more because it is very unique but…. Given the name I was expecting a much more coco vanilla flavor, it’s very very very slight and not what I was expecting.
Mac Baren - Vanilla Flake 1.75oz
Best straight vanilla iv had
This is a great tobacco I just got some in and on first open it smells of homemade vanilla ice cream with slight tobacco very pleasant tin note. smoking it doesn’t have a vanilla ice cream flavor but more of a hit of vanilla with a cream flavor and good quality tobacco taste no harshness no bite smokes cool little moist but 10 min dry time where I’m at and it’s good to go it’s almost like John cottons pressed crème so if you like that you will love this only complaint is the tin being square once you open it you will need to put it in a jar I really wish stg didn’t buy Mac baren gonna miss this stuff
Sutliff - Maple Street 1.5oz
Good smoke
Seem lots of reviews they can’t seem to taste the maple I taste it very easily but I did notice smoking in my rattray joy 113 it burns hotter and the maple flavor is hindered I also taste more rum but in my savinelli alligator I taste maple very easily and burns cooler and less rum flavor. It’s very nice on a rainy cold day. It’s sweet but not candy sweet more fruit sweet but not fruit flavor obviously just a natural sweet I bought more and will continue to keep it stocked.
