Peterson - Irish Flake 50g
Not bad, not great
Received this a little over a year ago. I don't remember what I thought of it, other then I didn't like it that much. Jarred it up since and haven't touched it. Having a pipe now of it though i think it might have just needed a little age. Definitely not a favorite, but it's something I wouldn't be upset about keeping around. There's nothing special really, but it's a decent flavor. Kind of light on the dark fired but you get a little taste of it now and again. I wouldn't guess there's Virginia in here. Fairly strong on the Burley though. I think I might not be as sensitive to nicotine as most of the other reviewers though, but it's not overly strong. Maybe a 3 out of 5 at best? Not a favorite, but not bad. I much prefer university flake out of Peterson blends, but for a mix like this, 1792 is miles better. If you like burley you'll enjoy this a lot.

1792 is hands down the best pipe tobacco I've ever had. I only have one caveat to that. It's not a blend i typically smoke all day, especially when the temps are in the 80s or higher. Idk why, but in the heat of the day in full sun it's just a bit much. Maybe now that I've been smoking it for a few years I'd probably be fine in the sun with it. But definitely a perfect end of the work day, sitting on the porch with a book or your thoughts kind of smoke. It's sweet, smokey in the deep bbq sense, a little bready, and it's strong. The casing is extremely subtle, almost nonexistent while smoking. Personally I like to roughly rub this one out with fairly large chunks left. For me it just works best that way. Occasionally I'll just fold a flake, but it's extremely oily and will leave your pipe very moist after. Usually throw this in a large, deep bowl for a satisfying hour+ smoke. I would take this type of smokey flavor over an English, even though I do like English blends too. It just has such a great flavor. Very strong virgina flavor as well. It's just a fantastic blend. I only have two jars left so I hope it's in stock again soon. I've been mixing up my smokes more to make this last longer because it's hard to find.

Cornell & Diehl - The Beast 2oz
Mr Crowley was clearly onto something here
Oh Mr Crowley, what went on in your head? Did you talk to the dead to craft this blend? The thrill of it all has certainly fooled me with your magic. You certainly uncovered something sacred that was conceived in the eye of a secret here. Riding the white horse is symbolic of course, as this approaches something classic. The maidens call is intoxicating and drastic. I just want to know what you meant. The beast is certainly an appropriate name for this blend. But may have been better served mentioning randy Rhodes as well in the short mention of Crowley. Though this may have been his blend, it's certainly reminiscent of Randy's playing style. Classic and technical with that spark of absolute genius that brings it all together in a magical way. Though I'm unsure if I can claim this as 5 stars on the nicotine or flavor scale, it is certainly strong in both aspects. Spicy, slightly sweet, a little tangy, but with some kind of dark fruit and a devilish cream to smooth it all out. Absolutely fantastic. The rum wasn't as noticeable as I had expected, but about 2/3's down the bowl it hit my palate like a freight train. Maybe crazy train is a better phrase. I'm not sure what I expected, but it wasn't this, and I mean that in the absolute best way possible. This was an amazing smoke. I write this after just finishing my first bowl, about a week after receiving and jarring my tin. The tin note was not strong when I first received it, but as I opened my jar for today's smoke I was greeted by a wonderfully sweet spiced rum scent, reminiscent of my favorite rum, bumbu. Absolutely incredible. I can't wait to see what a little time in the jar might do for this. Heads up, the perique is fairly strong. Very spicy, but well tamed by the other components. Once in a while I got that delicious Kentucky flavor, but it is mostly per, rum, and something darkly sweet and fruity. I wish I'd bought more then one. This will disappear quickly. Great job c&d!

Fantastic!
I'll start with I absolutely cannot stand the tin note of any English I've tried. That smokey note just hits my sinuses all wrong. However, I am a fan of smoking English blends, that isn't saying much though as I've found very few tobaccos i don't like smoking. My first tin of this has an almost gasoline like smell to the tin note, but after about 2 months in a jar it had calmed down a bit. Having said that it is quite moist to me. Broken flake needs just a little dry time after breaking up. Flavor is surprisingly mild for how strong the tin note is. Good solid consistent flavor. Not as diverse a flavor as nightcap is, but rather extremely consistent through the whole bowl. Slightly smokey, sweet, and something I can't quite put my finger on. Either way, it's very good. The taste isn't super strong to me, the nicotine is extremely mild at best. Again though very good. No tongue bite, actually one of the coolest smoking blends to me. I'll definitely be buying more of this.

Cornell & Diehl - Opening Night 8oz
My current #1, by far.
I've only been smoking a pipe for about a year, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. Having said that, I've tried a lot of tobaccos in the last year. When I first ordered this, it mostly drew me in because of the tin art. At the time I was a little worried because a few Virginia's I tried burned incredibly hot. So I let this sit for about a month before I tried it. The moment I opened it I knew this was special. It almost makes me think of a delicious iced tea on a hot summer afternoon. What a delight from the just the tin note. It came as a very broken flake, but a healthy amount of moisture. Rubbed it out into a nice ribbon and let it dry for a while (I don't time this, I just go by feel). I've tried this dried out completely all the way to more moist then I typically prefer. I've found a little more moist then most blends is perfect for me with this. No matter what I pipe I use, this is consistently fantastic. Sweet, but not overly so, no tongue bite, and just an incredibly satisfying flavor. The mustache scent following a pipe full of this is so incredible that I wish I had a cologne like this. This instantly became my #1 smoke. Surpassing nightcap, 1792, buyou morning flake and university flake for me. It has held the #1 spot for me for long enough at this point that I'm not sure anything is going to knock it down. It'll have to be something incredibly special to knock this off the top spot for me. I will always keep some of this on hand, as long as c&d keeps producing it. I can't wait to see what a few years will do a tin of this.
