Peterson - Flake 50g
Best Virginia Flake
I’ve smoked many of Virginias flakes and this surpasses them all with age. I wish I stocked up on more of this instead of spending so much time chasing other straight Virginias. Capstan Blue a close second. You don’t really need any other Virginia flakes besides those two, honestly. Pricy but worth it in the long run.

Cornell & Diehl - Blockade Runner 2oz
4 stars after 4 years
This stuff is pretty nice out the gate but it burned hot and had some rough edges and didn’t fully taste mature. The rum topping made for an amazing tin note and alluring first light but after trying other blends it ended up in a jar for some time. I checked on it every year approximately and now after 4 years I feel like it’s finally blossomed into something great. I’d compare this to an aged/ stoved luxury bullseye flake flavor profile after some time but in ribbon-cake form, which also takes some years to develop. If you have the patience it is definitely worth a corner of your cellar. I was about to write it off until this year and now I’d consider buying more. Funny how tobacco works through time.

After some years with this blend
This plug has become a top contender for me over the years. It needs some time in the cellar though, about a year minimum, but it’s worth the wait. I bought a couple tins already aged from 2010 and my goodness, they were heaven. Buy an 8 oz and let them sit, you won’t be disappointed, almost just as good as the 15 year tins. Leathery, woodsy, nutty, musty, smoky, subtle sweetness from the Virginia (just enough to balance out the burly, similar to PS Cube Cut but with more boldness), reminiscent of smell you get from damp autumn leaves, hint of dark chocolate, maybe creosote ish. Perfect combo with hot black coffee or whiskey. Enough nicotine to keep the engine running. If I had only one burley type to take with me, this is the one. I found it best to slice it thick and chop into cubes and gravity fill. About as reliable as your daily cup of joe, doesn’t blow your mind with complexities but you ain’t trying to go the day without it. About as wholesome as a warm hug or the daily bread. Top 5 hands down.

Cornell & Diehl - Five O'Clock Shadow 2oz
Smoke this with some grape soda
I’m a big fan of dark fired Kentucky and I’ll say this stuff is not the ultra tangy DFK you get from Old Dark Fired but is more like a powdery dark chocolate with the sweetness coming from the Virginia’s and deep fruitiness / pepper coming from the perique. For some dang reason I get a grape soda taste in the background. Pretty decent nic. When I got a tin of this stuff it was aged 5 years. I pretty much kept coming back to it because it satisfies without being too sweet or too boring. I’ll most likely buy it again. Sh*t slaps.
