Cornell & Diehl - Midnight Orchard 2oz
Best Aro
No joke. This is the top aromatic blend. I think I'm a pretty well rounded smoker. I like to sample almost everything. This beats everything in this category. A rough cut tobacco forward beast of an Aro. Light on the sweet, tangy. Seriously well done blend. Hope this becomes a regularly available tin or a twice a year drop. Good good good. Thumbs up.
Rivertown Tobacco Works - Custard Conspiracy
Top Tier Aro.
The flavors are simple. Vanilla. Custard. Something creamy. Not exactly almond but something close to a nut extract. There is no bite. I tried this in multiple shaped pipes. My suggestion would be to dedicate one or two specifically to it or have an around pipe for blends like these. And personally I liked blending it with a VaBur at 50/50. Choose something on the dry side with less complexity. Room note is great. Zero complaints. Well done.
Rivertown Tobacco Works - Oak & Ember
This is fantastic and a happy accident made it better.
This is fantastic. So here's what happened. I left about 2 ounces of Oak and Ember in a plastic herb jar and tossed it in my work backpack. It fell out of the bag and sat in my car for... Let's say two months or more. When found an experiment was done. I will do my best to explain. After checking it out and noting it was dry as a fart. I decided to fill a bowl. Using a 315 Savinelli pipe. Nice and wide bowl for a burley. I packed and lit it up. This is my opinion of the first bowl. I accidentally gave it slow moisture loss (not rapid drying) + intermittent oxygen exposure Warm/cool cycling from daily a with no tight anaerobic seal. This blend went from a 3 or 4 to an insane 5 star blend. So instead of “aged flake sweetness,” I got mellow, toasted, nutty, rounded Burley with lift and depth that even my favorite flakes couldn't match. Again. This was a complete accident! Just sitting in a plastic herb jar for months ( at least 2 ) and I needed a second opinion. I had tried a bowl of Oak and Ember right away when I bought it but this. This was not that tobacco. So my experiment really began. The 2 ounces ( minus the bowl I smoked earlier) went to the Friday poker game and was smoked by half the table, I needed confirmation and everyone there had a decade or more of pipe experience ( 1 much more than myself ) . Needless to say multiple orders of this blend were made in less than an hour. Our consensus was my happy accident with Oak and Ember let sharp ammonia notes off-gas plus softened the Burley edges and concentrated the natural nutty sugars. It really let the Virginia leaf darken just a touch and removed any bite without killing body. So if you are on the fence about trying this blend my suggestion is go for it. This will become a regular order for me. I hope this is useful to somebody.
