All day English. I wish it had a pinch more latakia but I have some stashed away for such occasions.
Cornell & Diehl - Fires on the Levee 2oz
Delightful blend!
My palette considers this to be aromatic albeit subtle without all of the sauce blenders usually top with. I was on the fence considering small batch blends can be hit or miss.. but damn I wish I bought more of this! Also - 希望我們的中國兄弟們能欣賞好煙草！
HU - Khoisaan 100g
I’d prefer to keep my thoughts to myself on this one.
Khoisaan is not the blend you’re looking for. Just forget you saw it. If you REALLY insist on trying this, then forget every other currently produced English in your stash. I hate to say it but you’ll probably be giving away most of them after finishing a tin of this. p.s. keep your damn mouths shut thank you!
Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation - Twilight Mixture
Twilight?
I could smoke this all day and be happy… at least for a few days until something else takes my attention! I like the cut being more akin to thick ribbon. Hints of broken flake. Bready, funky, slightly sour in the bag. Moisture content perfect - just rubbed out straight from the bag with no dry time. Lights easily and stays lit well. For me the virginias sort of crowded out the oriental but not in a bad way. I want to say it’s C&D long cut perique by the smell (sour fishy gym socks) so if you prefer their more fruity granulated perique ymmv. One bowl in and I like it - I’m a sucker for orientals. Best enjoyed very slowly. Solid 4 for me considering cost.
G. L. Pease - Triple Play 2oz
Nothing extraordinary, but
it falls under my “dumb reach” smoke. I know what I’m getting into and it satisfies every time. I can smoke this blend any time of day (but not all day). Can be enjoyed with coffee in the AM or after a nice meal. Tasty through and through. Tangy, smoky, fruity, fermented goodness. The fact that I can cut it up however I choose is a fun bonus. Solid 4
Cornell & Diehl - From Beyond 2oz
Not quite 90’s era Nightcap
but still very good! The latakia really takes a back seat - which is nice. It’s almost as if it’s slightly diluted with other components just so it isn’t as in-your-face. It lets me carefully tease the nuances of the aged latakia more easily from the blend and for that I like it. dank

Cornell & Diehl - Carolina Red Flake with Perique 2oz
Good now…
but I can’t wait to see how time develops this one. Not much to add that hasn’t been stated already - the reviews are spot on although I’m not getting a strong tangyness (which may come from cider vinegar) which Shane spoke on in the vid. Solid smoke.

Easy to smoke, stays lit, tastes great. I’ll let others describe the nuances but if you’re looking for a good English to smoke all day then this just might be your thing. Hits the spot when I reach for it.
HU - Indaba 100g
First HU blend
And I have to say it wasn’t what I was expecting but is great nonetheless! Got lucky and had a nice dark flake right on top upon first opening. The smell is just good, unadulterated tobacco. Rubbed out straight from the tin it smokes wonderfully. Sat down with a smaller bowl in my Irish Harp 230 and had a nice, cool, tasty smoke on the porch lost in thought. Burns great and clean with zero relights. I’d order more but there are too many HU blends to try! Someday… if HU doesn’t suddenly become unobtainium in the states.

Exactly what you expect.
No surprises here, folks. No bite to speak of and the moisture level was perfect straight out of the bag. I will be buying more of this in the future.
