Dan Tobacco - Old Ironsides 50g
As Deep as The Oceans and as Bold as The Men that Sailed them
Like the USS Constitution herself, this is my flagship. Of the tobaccos I've known over the years, this is my favorite. Bold jerky, peppercorn, applewood campfire ash, and plum/raisn. She's an adventure. Much like a ship bucking a sea swell, she starts hard, but once the initial kick is gone, she finishes calm and soothing. Warms the soul on a cold, wet winter day. Enjoy with an Islay single malt or a hot cup of black coffee around a campfire or in the shadow of a bright lighthouse beacon.

Peterson - Irish Flake 50g
Pulls No Punches
WOW! This blend looks you dead in the eyes, punches hard, and doesn't ask for forgiveness. I love it, but one bowl (maybe a half bowl) is enough for me. Bold, dark chocolate, fresh-roasted espresso, and burnt caramel on the nose with a deep, rich flavor that is somewhat more bitter than the smell.

Samuel Gawith - Navy Flake 50g
Tops
Unground peppercorn, leather, and pemmican of cranberry and dark cherry. A strong, bold taste that makes me want to wrap my peacoat over my shoulders and pour a glass of smoky Islay single malt while I watch from my bay window as waves pound the rocky cliffs beneath a lighthouse.

Capstan - Flake Blue 1.75oz
Mild, but good
Much milder than some of the other navy flakes I have, but still a solid smoke. Tolkien would have loved Fig Newtons, b/c the first essence that hits the nose when you open a new tin is just that: caramelized sugar and dried fruit. It gets much milder over the course of days after opening a tin, but I hear that if you're patient, this tobacco ages very, very well.

HU - Zulu Mixture 100g
Fall day at the camp
It's a drizzly fall morning at your campsite in the Blue Ridge. Dew covers the landscape, and you're the only person awake for miles. Your campfire is coals. You make the coffee and pack a bowl of this strong, zingy mix that perfectly complements the surrounding smell of smoldering campfire and taste of bitter black coffee. It's a good day.

Mac Baren - Navy Flake 3.5oz
An all time favorite
I thoroughly enjoy flakes and this is an excellent blend. I usually have a tin in my rotation. It’s definitely a rich flavor that goes well with a dram. I’ve heard it ages very well.

Peterson - Old Dublin 50g
Simple ‘n good
This is a new favorite of mine. It’s nothing fancy, but packs a flavorful bowl. I don’t smoke it everyday, but it’s now a part of the rotation and I smoke a bowl a few times a week. Balanced and smooth are certainly the watch words of this blend.

Peterson - University Flake 50g
A solid go-to
I’ve recently gotten back into pipe smoking after a decade-long hiatus. I used to be a Capstan Blue man. But since I’ve restarted the habit, I’ve been trying a lot of virginias I’d never tried before and University Flake has become my go-to for an after lunch smoke. It’s mild and easy. The fruity plumb is certainly there, but not strong. This is truly a go-to mild and comfortable smoke.
