Old German Clay - Antique Tavern Belge (Black)
$24 Clay Time Machine, Enjoy the Gift that is Tobacco like your Forebearers
Smooth, semi-glossy black finish with subtle irregularities. A jaunty tipped forward bowl of generous capacity and a slight curve to the stem. Cast in a mold over 200 years old. I love it. Smoking this, I feel a connection to past ancestors. If one day it meets with misfortune and is broken, I will return it to the soil of my garden, to be found and hopefully imitated again in the future. I don't worry about charring the rim as with important briars, or ghosting for that matter. I give it a quick rinse under the sink faucet when finished smoking. I have smoked Peterson's Night Cap, Early Morning Pipe, Peter Stokebye's Nougat and Cult Blood Red Moon in this clay. For me, all have been cool, long burning smokes and very enjoyable. Smoking under my maple tree on a cool February day, I'm transformed from mere schlub in a sprawling suburban hell, to Plantation Lord in an unblemished New World, or perhaps a Sailor having a smoke before embarking on a Clipper Ship spice run.
Tampers & Tools - Bill Shalosky Tamper - Osage Orange and .44 Magnum
44 Mag Tamping Power
Gleaming brass 44 Mag shell case paired with a perfectly polished handle of Osage Orange wood. The beautiful grain of this bow making wood shines like a tiger's eye, especially the end grain shown at the nicely angled top cut. A brass flat head philips screw sits flush in the primer pocket, securing brass case to wood. Shalosky's makers mark graces the shaft. I put this tamper to use upon arrival. Strangely compelling to hold even when its work is done. Nice bottom heavy balance, kind of like a weeble wobble when standing on a table. Very cool, Shalosky did a great job. Get this, or one in your fav caliber.
