Dan Tobacco - Salty Dogs 50g
Very nice!
Very dense plug of dark tobacco. I use a sharp knife to slice paper thin strips and rub it into ribbons with my fingers Nice grassy hay flavors and aroma, has a light fruity casing Burns cool and doesn't bite Totally enjoyable !
Cornell & Diehl - Interlude 2oz
Simply one of the Best Virginia Blends available !
I'm surprised there aren't too many reviews here. This is one of the best VA blends out there. The honey casing is unobtrusive and simply enhances the flavors of the red Virginia. Smokes cool and dry, with billows of sweet, flavorful smoke. Try it! PS. A piece of advice: don't kiss your wife after smoking this one :-D
Cornell & Diehl - Nutty Irishman
I like it!
Rich billows of soft, cool, dry smoke; fragrant, no gurgle, no bite, despite the moistness in the pouch. The aroma is good, and it can stand up to other more popular aromatics. The flavor is medium in strength, sweet and nutty, like that of a mild Va-Bur. There is a nice bitter aftertaste that lingers. Excellent and satisfying smoke!
Cornell & Diehl - Bob Bushman
Strong burley flavor, like a VaBurPer, with light casing
I don't know if the batch I got is from the bottom of the jar, but this tastes like a strong Burley blend to me, with Perique and Va thrown in. Yes, I can smell the top notes, but it's applied very lightly and does not detract from the true tobacco flavors. Most of the fruit flavorings burn off after the first few puffs, and what's left is good, strong tobacco. Is it a true "aromatic"? Not in my book. In my humble opinion, it's a powerful VaBurPer with a little casing added, just to make it interesting. If you like Pegasus and Crowley's Best, you just might like this.
Peter Stokkebye - PS402 Luxury Twist Flake
Sweet, smooth, and fragrant
There is a reason why this tobacco is so popular, and why it's been around for a very long time. There is, to me, a sweet fruity topping that lasts throughout the entire bowl. The topping is light, does not detract from the flavors of the tobacco, and rather enhances the experience. LTF smokes cool and slow and does not bite. Beautiful flake and delicious flavors! One of my favorite Va blends when I want something sweet and light.
G. L. Pease - Montgomery 2oz
"Crisp and clean" is right
My tin has a bit of age in it, so the tin note reminds me of wine, ripe fruit, and fermented fruit. The smoke is sweet, tangy, grassy; with notes of bread and sweet corn. The DFK is applied lightly, it's barely there, but adds some body and depth. Smokes cool and doesn't bite. All lovers of VA should get this. I'm a fan already.
Tatuaje - Havana VI Nobles
just an excellent cigar!
Beautifully crafted cigar that's deeply fragrant when sniffed unlit. It looks like the size of a robusto. Upon lighting, it is sweet, rich, but not bitter or assaulting. The strength and flavors build up as you progress in the smoke. Really smooth and cool and fragrant, like a good cigar should. I like cigars in the milder, sweeter category, but not too sweet. I'd call this mild to medium. I smoked my cigar to the last inch. It's that good!
Tatuaje - Havana VI Hermosos
firm, fragrant, and flavourful
Beautifully crafted cigar that's deeply fragrant when sniffed unlit. It looks like the size of a robusto. Upon lighting, it is sweet, rich, but not bitter or assaulting. The strength and flavors build up as you progress in the smoke. Really smooth and cool and fragrant, like a good cigar should. I like cigars in the milder, sweeter category, but not too sweet. I'd call this mild to medium. Definitely a keeper in my book. Will buy again.
G. L. Pease - Stratford 2oz
Excellent first impression
Wow! This tobacco is for me. The first light is sweet and flavorful and gradually builds up in intensity. Red Virginia flavors are up front: notes of bread, corn, cereal... even corn syrup. A little lemon and citrus from the bright leaf follows. The spicy tingle of Perique is there, but applied very lightly, just enough to tease your palate; it's not overwhelming. To me, it goes from sweet to smoky to spicy, and back to sweet again. It smokes smoothly and coolly and does not bite, even when pulled. If you like medium Va blends, with enough complex flavors to enjoy, but not too strong so it doesn't clobber you, this is it! Could be an all-day smoke.
Gladora - Pesse Canoe Oriental Flake 50g
very good!
Opening the tin I am greeted by lovely dark brown flakes arranged neatly. The tin aroma is sweet and reminds me of milk chocolate. On lighting, the smoke is flavorful, with hints of chocolate, cream, fruit, and flowers, sometimes reminiscent of Lakeland tobaccos. It may qualify as an aromatic, but it is a mild one. It smokes smooth, cool, and does not bite. Room note is pleasant. I like this very unique and well-made blend. Try it!
Gladora - Pesse Canoe Latakia Flake 20 50g
very nice!
Upon opening, the tin note is intoxicating: terpene, pungent, and incense-like. Beautifully arranged dark brown flakes in the case. The strong aromas translate into the smoke, and for me, it is a medium English blend. I will compare this with the Latakia 40 flake by the same maker. The smoke itself is smooth, reminiscent of herbs, campfire, woods, and earth; it is medium in strength, and does not bite. It is a lovely experience, and certainly worth repeating. Highly recommended !
Captain Black - Dark 1.5oz
Excellent aromatic
I am a fan of English and Va blends, but this one caught me by surprise! It was on sale and I added this to my order. On opening the packet, the dark leaves were moist and smelled sweet and gentle, not the usual pungent odors that I'm used to in Latakia blends. In the bowl, it is a fragrant smoke; this blend produces billows of soft, cool, sweet, delicious marshmallow-like smoke that tastes great and doesn't bite. The vanilla topping is just right; it's not too much and does not detract from the experience. Once, I mixed some Per Hansen's Burley in it to add some body. Excellent results! It lasted a long time, and I enjoyed it immensely. Will buy this again when I run out.
Capstan - Ready Rubbed Yellow 1.75oz
Wow! Amazing !
There is a reason why this brand has been so popular for a century! It’s sweet, fragrant, creamy, fruity, rich, all at the same time. It smokes cool and doesn’t bite. The flavor gets darker and deeper as you smoke down the bowl, owing to the sugars getting caramelized. Unique and totally one of a kind ! Everyone must try it.
Low Country - Natural Virginia
Excellent tobacco
Just great tasting, natural Virginia goodness. At such a great price. Smokes sweet, smooth, and cool without a bite. Must try!
Samuel Gawith - Balkan Flake Burnt Ends 8oz
Sweet and smooth
This comes in thick, moist, dense, fragrant plugs of natural dark brown tobacco that look like whole leaves pressed together, steamed and cut. Smells great in the pack: I get scents of leather and earth. You'll need a sharp knife to slice it into small "cube cuts". It is difficult to rub out into ribbons by hand, and I eventually used my coffee grinder to do the job. This blend smokes cool, sweet, flavorful, and delicious, producing billows of thick, sweet smoke. I can easily taste the sweet, fruity Virginia, the flavor reminds me of sweet corn; but very little of the woody, smoky Latakia. It does require some attention to cadence so it won't bite you, and I needed to do a number of relights. I'll try drying it out next time and see what happens. Nicotine level is mid to high. Overall, a great experience!
Cornell & Diehl - Red Odessa
A classic
This has been a firm favorite for years. A classic, rich English taste and aroma. It’s spicy and smoky and I can taste the Latakia and orientals in it. It smokes cool and there is a buttery and creamy essence to it, like a good English blend. Reminiscent of the Dunhill and Balkan blends.
Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation - Twilight Mixture
Very nice !
It is a Vaper with some orientals added. Grassy, spicy, full, a little tangy, fragrant and delicious ! Worth it and will buy more once I finish my pack.
Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Burley and Bright
Sweet and light
It is sweet and medium flavored. The rich burley taste is there. There is a mild chocolatey flavor and aroma, and some Lakeland essence, but not too much. Smokes cool with no bite; It can be enjoyed all day and doesn’t need much attention.
Cornell & Diehl - White Burley
Very nice on its own
It’s a blender but very good on its own. Full flavored, cool smoking, has cigar-notes, earthy, smoky, a little nutty, cocoa... Delicious ! It will add extra body and flavor to milder, weaker blends that I don’t enjoy.
Cornell & Diehl - White Burley
Very nice on its own
It’s a blender but very good on its own. Full flavored, cool smoking, has cigar-notes, earthy, smoky, a little nutty, cocoa... Delicious !
Cornell & Diehl - White Burley
Very nice on its own
It’s a blender but very good on its own. Full flavored, cool smoking, has cigar-notes, earthy, smoky, a little nutty. Delicious !
Sutliff - Revelation Match
Very nice well rounded smoke
I no longer remember the original, but this one is a good blend on its own merits. It has the characters of burley and latakia, with a mild plum and rum note. It smokes cool, smooth, and flavorful. Medium blend. Highly recommended.
Old Dominion - Chesapeake
Very nice workmanship
Sturdy, rustic, and cute. The draw is open and the pipe lightweight. The bottom of the bowl is thick and solid, so it sits very well. Smoking the pipe, I notice it smokes clean and dry, it seems to absorb moisture very well. Well worth it!
Clarin Clay - The Canadian One
Beautiful workmanship
It’s smooth and well-made, with a comfortable heft reminiscent of a briar pipe. Nice comfortable bit also. It is sized like a medium briar pipe or “size 4”
Old German Clay - Cutty with Hemp Wrap
Decent sized bowl, nice open draw
This has a large sized bowl for at least an hour of smoking pleasure. The hemp wrap protects your hands from the extreme heat of the bowl.
Old Dominion - The Dutchman Clay Pipe
Very nice workmanship with open draw
It’s a smallish pipe but the bowl size can give you a 30-45 minute smoke. Nice open draw
Sutliff - #600 Mixture 79
Actually good!
I know this blend is vilified in many forums, but I bought the bulk version and it's actually good! The flavor is rich and satisfying, it smokes, cool, dry, fragrant, and doesn't bite, and has a decent nicotine level. Give it a try!
Cornell & Diehl - Red Virginia Ribbon
Wow!
This stuff is strong. In the spectrum of Virginias, it's in the fuller end of the scale. Bready at first, then the flavors develop into earthy, rich, full, and deep. Will be great added to my milder aromatics, and to any blend that i find too light. Highly recommended!
Toscano - Extra Vecchio (5 Pack)
Lovin’ it
My first cheroot! And I’m lovin’ it already. It smells good without even lighting it yet. It tastes good and I can chew it unlit all day. Lighting it up gives a bold delicious flavor that’s smooth and cool. Like the dark-fired leaf in pipe tobacco. Awesome!
Sutliff - Creme Brulee
Success!
Blender has achieved a sweet, fragrant aromatic with enough natural flavor to keep me interested, and smokes cool with no bite. No chemical aftertaste. Success!
Samuel Gawith - Skiff Mixture 50g
Very smooth
smooth, cool, and tasty English blend. No bite at all.
Cleaners & Cleaning Supplies - Peterson Pipe Cleaners - Tapered (50 Pack)
One of the best in the market
Perfect and well made. The cleaner doesn't shed; and I like it that the thick end fits snugly into the draft hole of the stummel, while the narrow end cleans the inside of the P-lip very well, resulting in a nice, clean, and well-scrubbed airway. Easily my favorite brand!
War Horse - Bar 1.75oz
Rich and full flavor .. wow!
In the delicious tradition of Condor and the old St. Bruno. If you like those blends, you will love this!
G. L. Pease - Abingdon 2oz
Constant favorite
Very smooth, cool, and full flavored blend without being overwhelming. It's always on my top tobacco list.
Erinmore - Erinmore Flake 50g
A classic !
An aromatic it is. But the added flavors are lightly applied. The natural tobacco flavors and aroma shine through. It smokes smooth and cool and doesn’t bite. Highly recommended.
Cornell & Diehl - Cordial
A Classic!
I normally go to the web to check the components of a tobacco that's currently in my pipe... but when I lit this one up, I just stopped and savored the beautiful aroma and the scrumptious flavor... Mmmm! Creamy, nutty, buttery, smooth, and fragrant... a classic English in the same mold as Dunhill 965. It's become my favorite in the C&D English line up. If you like Dunhill blends, you will like this one.
Peterson - De Luxe Navy Rolls 50g
Wow!
This must be the smoothest, coolest, tastiest, sweetest Virginia pipe tobacco I've tried. The perique is applied very lightly. Better than Escudo. IMHO of course.
Captain Earle's - Mystic Blend 2oz
Wow!
The aroma in the tin is scrumptious! The flavor of the smoke rich, deep, and totally satisfying! Try it.
Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Black Twist Sliced
Barbeque, anyone?
A very unique and unusual experience for me. I get the flavors of charbroiled beef, dark incense, wood, and some light floral essence. It smokes slow and cool and doesn't bite. It's not unpleasant at all, just different from the Virginia's, Latakia's and Burleys I'm used to. Nicotine strength is around medium. Room note isn't great. Worth a try!
Amphora - Kentucky Blend 1.75oz
Great intro to Kentucky
This is a great introductory blend for those who have yet to try dark- fired Kentucky. Bold taste, great aroma, no bite.
