About This Pipe

Though almost six and a half inches in length, this Dublin from Yuwei Huang remains impressively lightweight at just about 24 grams. Poised on the end of a slightly-upward curling shank extension of four-knuckled bamboo, the bowl trumpets in a forward cant from out of the transition, the heel neatly faceted to add some rigid firmness in profile. The rim is dramatically concave, and when viewed from above the oval orientation is tilted to the right for some some dramatic asymmetry. For a subtle, accenting touch, Huang has paneled the edges of the upward flicking sides of the rim, leaving them smooth to contrast against the rest of the stummel's sandblast. Said sandblast, then, has coaxed out tight-knit ripples of ring grain all around the bowl, and the flaring nature of the bowl matches the organic aesthetic promoted by the bamboo, which has been beautifully accented with pearl white nodes to seal the alternate medium.
