Sandblasted Bent Dublin with Mammoth (249) Tobacco Pipe

Inspired by Danish and Chinese carvers alike, Yang Kun has cultivated a distinctive style over the course of his pipe-making career, one that marries handsome aesthetics with precise engineering, making for pieces that are both fashionable and practical. With such a penchant for aesthetic refinement, much of Kun's portfolio is informed by his keen eye for grain, featuring shapes with substantial, flaring designs and striking finishes to coax out the finest patterning, as seen in this bent Dublin. With a slight forward-urging posture, the bowl is positioned atop a flat, sure-sitting heel, from which thick, insulating flare as they rise toward the domed rim, making for a snug fit in hand. Echoing the bowl, a muscular shank flares as it emerges from a cinched transition out back and joins to a gently downturned saddle stem. A fine showcase of the artisan's finishing work, the stummel wears a crisp sandblast that reveals waves of tightly-packed growth rings wrapping around the bowl and a wealth of birdseye circling the rim and heel. The grain is further accentuated by a warm contrast stain, its rich hue complemented by the light, creamy complexion of the shank end's plump, smooth-polished mammoth accent.
