About This Pipe
A truly exceptional piece from Lasse Skovgaard, this bent Egg is a prime example of the young Danish artisan's compilation of influences and unique style. As is often the case in his compositions, for example, the bowl itself has been lent the majority of the visual weight, yet he's preserved the form's continuous, fluid profile through a sinuous style of shank and stem — tapering and guiding the eye away from the bowl and up to the stem. That continuity is further emphasized by the pronounced Ivarsson-esque ridge flowing from shank end, along the smooth, sweeping lines of the heel, and up to the concave, beveled rim.
The result is a silhouette with a bold, forward stance — yet one still perfectly balanced in line and flow. The expertly oriented cross-grain pattern only serves to reinforce this fluidity as well, with seas of birdseye covering the fore and aft, and broad columns of flame cascading down either flank.
